Control areas
A control area is a named rectangle on the map. A signal box with a control area (Railway Control Desk, Track Map Display, Track Diagram Desk or Console) shows only this part of the network and operates only what lies inside. So several players can each run their own signal box without getting in each other's way.
Creating an area
New area
On an admin desk, open the Areas tab and press New area. Type a name. The new area reaches 48 blocks around you.
Pull the corners
Walk to one corner of the area you want and press Corner here: the nearest corner moves to where you stand. Repeat at the opposite corner.
Check on the map
On the map of an admin desk all areas are outlined in yellow. The tab shows each area's coordinates and size.
The same works by command: /cmr zone list | create <name> | corner <name> | delete <name>.
Assigning an area
Sneak + right-click the signal box with an empty hand. Each click moves on to the next area: no area, first area, …, last area, no area again. For a display or desk the area applies to the whole joined surface.
The same sneak-click gives an area to the Dispatcher Radio Desk and to the Radio Block Centre of ETCS, see ETCS level 2.
Desk with an area
It only has the tabs Stations, Map, Routes and Signals, and inside its area it may:
- close and reopen stations, with reason and replacement stop (no name patterns with
*and?), - lock and release signals, give the substitute signal,
- hold and release trains, give a train an order over the radio,
- switch routes whose signals all lie in the area; an entry-exit route needs its entry and exit signal in the area,
- set Zs 3 digits, speed boards and switching signals,
- make a call to one of its own stations,
- release an on-call crossing,
- switch ETCS on and off for a radio block centre that stands in the area.
Apply all stays allowed, otherwise a closure would have no effect.
Admin desk
A desk without an area is an admin desk. It sees the whole network and may do everything; only there you find
lines, schedules, profiles, announcements, the log and the areas themselves. The command /cmr is not bound to any
desk and works like an admin desk.
