Lines & Schedules

Permissions and districts

Who may change schedules, lines and stations, and what a signal box limited to a control area may do.

CMR has no permission system of its own. It uses CRN's, and adds control areas (districts) that limit a signal box to one part of the network.

Permissions

WhoMay
EveryoneOpen the window and look at everything.
Whoever may change CRN's Global SettingsManage schedules, stations (closures, replacement stops, reasons, extra stops), profiles, control areas and the signal box; change the settings of signals, signs, lamps and level crossings with the wrench.
Whoever may edit the line in CRNAssign and remove schedules for that line, apply it, preview, add trains, set interval and auto-sync, undo.
  • The check happens on the server, so it applies the same to the window and to commands.
  • Apply all applies the lines you may edit and skips the others; the answer tells you how many were skipped.
  • Without permission an action fails with "You are not allowed to do this".
  • Automatic runs (night schedule, auto-sync, expiring closures, profile timetables, Effective at once) apply all lines regardless of who owns them.

Control areas (districts)

A control area is a named rectangle on the map. A signal box (Railway Control Desk, Track Map Display, Track Diagram Desk or Track Diagram Console) that has been given a control area only shows that part of the network and only operates what lies inside it. That way several players can each run their own signal box.

Creating an area

New area

In the Areas tab click New area and type a name (up to 24 characters). The area first reaches 48 blocks around you, in the dimension you are in.

Pull the corners

Walk to one corner of the area you want and click Corner here: the nearest corner of the rectangle moves to where you stand. Repeat at the opposite corner.

Check on the map

All areas are outlined in yellow on the map. The details give the area's corners and size in blocks.

Assigning an area to a signal box

Sneak and right-click the signal box with an empty hand. Each click moves on to the next area: no area, first area, second area, ... and back to no area. For displays, desks and consoles this applies to the whole connected surface.

The same works on the Dispatcher Radio Desk and the Radio Block Centre (RBC), see Train Radio and Train Protection.

What a signal box with an area may do

The window opened there is titled Signal box name and only has the tabs Stations, Map, Routes and Signals. It may:

  • close and reopen stations inside the area, and set their replacement stop and reason (no patterns with wildcards);
  • lock and release signals inside the area, give the substitute signal there, and hold and release trains there;
  • set the speed digits of light signals, speed boards and switching signals inside the area;
  • switch routes whose signals all lie inside the area;
  • make a call over the loudspeakers of its own stations;
  • release on-call level crossings inside the area;
  • use Apply all, otherwise a closure would have no effect.

Anything else fails with "That is outside the area name or reserved for the admin desk".

The admin desk

A signal box without an area is an admin desk. It sees the whole network and may do everything. Lines, schedules, profiles, the log, the areas themselves and Effective at once are only available there. The command /cmr is not tied to a signal box and works like an admin desk.

If you delete an area, the signal boxes that used it stay locked ("This desk's control area was deleted") until someone assigns them a new area or none.

By command

/cmr zone list
/cmr zone create <name> a new area around where you stand
/cmr zone corner <name> pull the nearest corner to where you stand
/cmr zone delete <name>
