Train Radio
Radios
The Dispatcher Radio Desk, the Cab Radio and the GSM-R Handheld Radio.
There are three kinds of radio. All of them open the same radio window; what you can do in it depends on who you are: a dispatcher at a desk has a few more buttons than a driver.
Dispatcher Radio Desk
The radio of the signal box. A right click opens the dispatcher's radio window.
- Area: Sneak and right-click the desk with an empty hand to switch through the control areas (no area, first area, second, ... no area), just like the control desk. With an area the desk serves the trains inside it; without one it serves everything within 512 blocks.
- Staffed: A desk counts as staffed while a player stands within 8 blocks of it. In the list of a driver's radio an unstaffed desk carries the note "(unstaffed)". Where no desk is staffed, the automatic dispatcher answers.
- Wired: The desk needs no radio mast.
- Only at the desk: Group call and Order exist only here.
Cab Radio
A device for the Driver's Console. Click a half of the console with it to fit it to the desk (or to the front wall below it); a wrench takes it out again.
- A train with a cab radio is a radio subscriber. It goes by its CRN train name, otherwise by Create's train name.
- On the moving train a right click on the cab radio opens the radio of the train, and so does G.
- Everybody within 3 blocks of the train counts as on board and takes part in its calls.
GSM-R Handheld Radio
Radio away from the cab: for a shunter at the track, a passenger or a dispatcher on the move.
- A right click with it in hand opens the radio.
- It works as long as it is anywhere in your inventory (or in the off hand), so G and J also work without holding it.
- On a train with a cab radio, G opens the train's radio instead.
The radio window
| Part | What it shows |
|---|---|
| Top | Your radio ("Train radio: ICE 512"), the network and the call state ("No call", "Calling ...", "Talking to ..."). |
| Reachable | Everybody you can reach. Select one to call or to send a message. A train waiting at a red signal is marked "Waiting at signal P7". |
| Buttons | Call, Answer, Hang up, Group call (desk), Message with Send, Order (desk), Emergency. |
| History | The last calls and messages. |
| Bottom | Only with masts and Automatic dispatcher, for players who may change CRN's "Global Settings". |
How speech gets across depends on Simple Voice Chat: the window says "Speech: over Voice Chat" or "Speech: chat goes
over the radio during a call". See Voice and keys.
