Train Protection
Planned
What is planned for train protection - ETCS level 3 with moving block, and brake systems with real braking. Nothing of this is built yet.
Nothing on this page is in the game yet. These are plans; details and order may change.
ETCS level 3 (moving block)
On level 3 the movement authority no longer ends at the next block signal but shortly behind the tail of the train ahead: the block moves along with the trains, and trains can follow each other more closely. The train reports that it is complete, so the radio block centre knows nothing was left behind.
The idea for the mod:
- a setting "Moving block" in the window of the Radio Block Centre,
- a device that reports the train complete; trains without it keep running on level 2 with fixed blocks,
- the authority ends a safety distance behind the train ahead; locked signals and track ends still end it,
- the DMI shows "Level 3" and the train ahead as its target.
Open questions are how Create copes with two trains in one signal section, and whether a hybrid with virtual sections is the better first step.
Brake systems
Today every train in Create brakes the same, and a forced braking stops a train almost like a wall. Planned are, among other things:
- a brake model per train (brake percentage and brake position), used by ETCS braking curves, PZB and forced braking,
- PZB train categories M and U besides O,
- pressure gauges in the console and a driver's brake valve with real positions,
- brake position per carriage (G, P, R, R+Mg),
- a brake test before departure with the signals Zp 6, Zp 7 and Zp 8,
- the emergency brake handle with override in the carriage, and a parking brake.
Braking distances stay shortened to fit Minecraft lines, with real ratios between trains and brake positions.
